Even though all incarcerated members of the 1979 soul group Edge of Daybreak eventually made parole, their infectiously cheerful and danceable 8 track LP was swiftly recorded in prison. Their album, all tracks being first takes, gave the jailed members a second chance to imagine their lives without the notoriously dangerous confinements of Virginia’s Powhatan Correctional Center.
